Very late of a Summers evening a 9F stands at the ore unloading triangle at Consett steelworks as the lights of the town twinkle in the background. A traumatic night as I remember, the driver had arranged to slow at Birtley Station to let us jump of the van, but the interpretation of this was we jumped off into total darkness at quite a speed and were lucky to escape with just a few bruises from the ensuing tumbles! I can still hear the Westinghouse pump's syncopations. Summer 1966
